The Power of a Good Book
A book can be a portal—into different worlds, minds, and hearts. Last year, I read The Book Thief during a long train ride, and by the end, I felt like I’d lived alongside Liesel, her heartache and courage becoming mine. Books teach empathy: you walk in others’ shoes, understand their joys and struggles, even if they’re fictional. They expand our knowledge, challenge our beliefs, and offer escape when reality feels heavy. I keep a “book journal,” noting quotes that resonate and how each story touched me. In a digital age, flipping physical pages has its own magic—the weight of the book, the smell of paper, the ability to revisit a favorite passage with a dog-eared corner. A good book is a companion, always ready to teach, comfort, or inspire.
